WHAT INSPIRES YOU- (1)

What does the word “inspiration” actually mean?  It’s the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something — especially to do something creative.

We spent the last month reaching out to a diverse group of professionals from different industries and asked them to reflect on what inspires and drives them.

We’ve picked some of our favorite responses to share with you all. We hope this inspires you too.

What career advice would you give yourself 5 years ago?

“Save for the future, at least six months.  Line up cool freelance projects with small companies that you like.  Work on your web skills, social, and eComm knowledge.  Improve your LinkedIn profile.”

– Creative Director

“Five years ago, I was in my first year of law school.  The advice I would give myself is: take the extra year and get a JD/MBA.”

– Attorney

“Get out of your comfort zone, work hard, and you will see results.”

– Dancer

“Anything worth doing well is worth investing the time.”

– Management Consultant

If money were no object and you were going to work for free the rest of your life, what would you want to do?

“I would work for a nonprofit providing legal services for the underprivileged.”

“Seeing how a brilliant performance can visibly move an audience and motivate them to believe that anything is possible.”

– Dancer

“Smart, talented people and great stories told well.”

– UI/UX Lead

“Putting out high quality work and being recognized for it.”

– Attorney

“Being around positive, like-minded people that are over achievers makes me up my own game.”

– Dancer

“Solid teamwork, including individual work product at highest caliber to drive, contribute to that success.  Innovation.”

– Management Consultant

What drives you to succeed?  Is it recognition, social impact, or perhaps achieving a certain salary that motivates you?

“A combination of all these things, and seeing a concept through to the finish line.”

– Creative Director

“Being able to accomplish something I didn’t think was possible, and being acknowledged for it drives me to succeed.”

– Dancer

“Genuine interest in work and intellectual curiosity.  Salary. Competition.”

What advice would you offer a recent grad interested in a similar career path?

“Get your foot in the door and prove that you are worth keeping around.”

“Get a master’s degree, teaching credential while you are in school.  Focus on what the kids are doing, find some part of the industry that you love.  Find a great mentor.”
